[Vegan Mofo] A Special Pasta Dish

Today marks another year without my sister Jennifer. In 2003 at the age of twenty-two she was killed by a drunk driver. This is always a hard time for my family - this block of holidays ending with her birthday in January is something we get through with a cloud over us.

I wanted to think about my sister today and all the memories I had with her. One memory is some of her favorite dishes. Growing up she was crazy about pasta with butter and Parmesan, I was never a fan...I made the vegan version today...Simple no need for a recipe. Cook pasta till done, drain add Earth Balance, stir and sprinkle in a bunch of nutritional yeast...I could not get through my plate - even with Mar's help but it did take me back.

We miss you deeply sissy.

  1. I can't even imagine how much you miss her. Drunk drivers are something I've never had any tolerance for. Our country's laws are far too easy on them, IMO. I'm so sorry. :(

  3. A great way to honor your sister's memory :) Food is a such a powerful way to remember those we have lost, just last night my husband and I were talking about how much his late father enjoyed the peanut butter rice cripie treats I would make for him every X-mas.
