Celebrating Memories Of Mar - Monday

Friday March 7th would have been Mar's 17th birthday, a day I thought we would celebrate together. I was planning on releasing a zine this Friday but decided to take some of my ideas and writings and post them on my blog instead. I want everyone to be able to remember my best friend and share some cat love.

Days like these that are cloudy with rain in the forecast I like to nap. Mar like most cats liked to nap as well. I liked picking Mar up and carrying him to bed and stretching out next to him and sleeping. It was very comforting to me to hear his purr, feel him breathing in and out and pet him to we both drifted off.
In the winter Mar kept me warm. Our first apartment together was pretty drafty. When the calendar marked November and our apartment had no heater we would both get under the blankets to cuddle. Mar liked having the blankets on him. He loved playing under them while I made the bed. He preferred to get on top of all of the blankets and on occasion on top of Matt's chest.
Mar also liked my pillow. Matt would tell me to move him when I could not get comfortable. However I never did and had neck pain the next morning. He also loved sleeping in the crook of my knees, if I would move, he would get angry and let me know (claw or meow or sometimes both).

The bed feels empty. Sometimes in the middle of the night the blankets bunch up behind me and for a split second I move gently thinking it is Mar. Then the realization hits me and my heart hurts. Matt has had visions of Mar in bed and I have had realistic dreams of him...I believe it is him, letting us know he is around.

Mar Update - Good News!

We started off last week on a not-so-good note. Mar was having trouble getting to the litter box, moving around, eating - just a lot of stiffness. We took him in to the vet and while his BUN and creatinine where at good levels his potassium was once again on the low side. So after starting him back on his supplement and giving him a few days to rest he was back to his old meowing at 5AM self.
When he was not feeling well he had an accident on his favorite scratching post and we had to throw it out. Mar recently got a get well gift from my good friend - $50 to spend at PetCo. So after the accident with his scratching post/lounge we went on a mission to find him one he would use, not like the other 5 collecting dust he has no interest in. I picked out the biggest one and he is content! I catch him chillin' in it often, like last night before bed.
Thank you again everyone for the love and support you have showed my baby kitty over the last month. It means the world to me. Mar will be relaxing for a 2 week off from the vet break. I release my newest zine this week in hopes of getting some of the vet bills paid off. Stay tuned!

World Cat Day!

It is World Cat Day! It is time to take a moment out to blog about your feline friends!

By now you know my 14 year old big boy Mar but you might not know about his name! Many people just pronounce Mar as it is read..like Mar(ch) - which is the month he was born in! However it is like night(Mar)e. If you are not confused yet - Mar is short for Marilyn - which people think is a odd name for a boy kitty. However Mar is named after Marilyn Manson who I was really into in my late teens when Mar was plopped into my lap!

This weekend I hope to finally get my Mar tattoo done. I have waited for ever to finally find an artist that gets it! It will be my longest sit down session - I am ready!!!

Flat Mar

If you know me - you know I am allergic to rabbits. I was told I could not be allergic to them because bunnies are hypoallergenic - it must be they hay. I was around hay - no problems. It is the sweet bunnies I cannot handle. I still will pet bunnies until I cannot breathe and run gasping for bunny free air though!

Enter Flat Bonnie maker of super cute custom bunny plushes. I loved the work instantly! I thought of the possibility of a Flat Mar and sent a request and flat cat magic was born! I was hesitant at first because lately my artistic request of Mar have been not met with great success (due to my request not being taken to seriously perhaps)...When I got the sketches I was smitten, asked for Mar's white V on his forehead and sat back.

This is Flat Mar - complete with baby cancer fighting tail from Flat Bonnie's blog! That bottom right pic is how Mar sleeps next to me!

I took a quick picture of Mar and flat Mar last night. Mar wanted dinner and was grumpy from having a puppy in his backyard (the people turning our jungle into an actual yard brought their puppy over the last few days)...

Go get your flatty customs - NOW!!!!!

Blog Famous and Harvest Home Animal Love

I woke up yesterday morning to find that Mar was featured on Catsparella and Vegan Flower reviewed my zine! All the nice words really made Mar and I happy! So thank you from both of us! We feel like stars!

Yesterday Matt and I went up to Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary to drop off blankets that we collected and some food. We got to spend time with animals and I even got to feed my homie Harold the Guinea Pig some organic greens I brought for him.

Mohawk the pig - super friendly guy!

I wanted to take him home! Super fluffy friend! There were so many cool birds! Recent chicks that made it to the home included two rescues that were companions to a fire fighter that died battling a fire last week in the bay area. The story is sad but I know he would be happy to see his kids in a safe place.

Matt feeding the bunnies!

This turkey dude is so cool! I love how he just follows you around!

I hope to spend more time with the animals at this special place. My newest project is making sweaters for the hens! I will post my progress in the upcoming weeks!

Random Pictures

My mom brought me flowers from her garden yesterday and I picked the yellow rose buds from the front yard today.

Mar joined me in the front yard and soaked up some sunshine and found a dirt patch to get all dusty in! We love this weather!

Pet Cancer Awareness Month

May is Pet Cancer Awareness month. Many of you know that Mar is a cancer survivor. Almost 2 years ago he had a boo boo on his tail, it would not heal, we took him to his vet and the vet said it could be cancer. We were like 'ohh it can't be that - he is so healthy'. The test results proved it was cancer. No other cancer was found in his body so we decided to amputate his tail. Since then we have found a few lumps - no cancer!

Last week Mar (also refereed to as Tuxedo Bad Ass) had his teeth cleaned - (every six months we go in), shots and some grooming. He had to get four teeth pulled - including his 2 lower canines. Mar was born with bad gums and requires extra teeth cleaning. He was groggy and sore the first night home. He found Pusheen from Everyday Cute relaxing - excuse the dark quality - it was night and the lights were low.

Please take the time to read up on pet cancer here : PCA and make a donation if you can! I am wearing my blue bracelet all month long and telling the story about how little tails rock!

In The Front Yard Today

Here are a few pictures I randomly took in the front yard today. I love this weather!

We have a bird family that built their new house right next to the front door! We hear birds coming and going all day long! I think it is rather cute!

Some flowers that poped up over night due to the nice weather! I hope more come up soon!

Mar enjoying the nice weather and checking out the cats across the street!
