A Bit Of [VeganMOFO] & Weekend Stuff

I thought I would get some acupuncture done this weekend to see if it would transform my nervous energy to bliss. It did not happen, got to the clinic and it was packed, I even had an appointment and it did not matter. I was rather angry seeing it was a 30+ minute drive. So I asked for a refund and headed over to the Delta Humane Society thrift store and bought a few things, hung out with kittens and people who love cats.

To bust me out of my funk more Matt decided we needed doughnuts at Family Donuts & Deli again. The selection was smaller this time around but there were still some great ones to choose from. We tried a blueberry jelly filled and it was tasty!

Of course cemetery exploring was a must. Though the air quality is bad and everything looks murky and like a yellow bruise outside I had to get out there. The mausoleums were open and the air conditioner was on so Matt hung out in one while I explored. Matt snapped the above picture of me when I went back to get him

We rounded out the day having dinner at El Papagayo. I had green enchiladas - one with fried tofu and the other with chili colorado - both tasty options. This leads me to VeganMOFO - I would totally take Mr. President to eat here. No way am I going to cook and fill myself with anxiety! I would get him stuffed with nachos from the salsa bar, get him a round of Tecate and tell him to try a fried tofu dish!

Oakland's Eat Real Fest & Bean Book Winner

Last Saturday Matt and I went to Oakland to get our vegan food fix at the Eat Real Fest, after struggling to find parking (the theme for the day!) we headed over and scoped out food vendors looking for vegan eats!

We first split a plate of tofu fries from Hodo Soy  yummy after a squirt of Sriracha!

We were on a mission to find Hella Vegan Eats - since we could only find a map of the festival at certain points, Matt got on his phone, looked up pics and all Inspector Gadget like figured out their location.

I got the Lusty Lover Taco: mac n cheeze, bbq bits and crunchy spicy corn flake topping. It was so good and this dish has me experimenting in the kitchen!

Matt got the doughnut burger - mini in size but big in flavor. It is a beet burger patty with a doughnut bun. I found it to sweet. It was good but I think it needed something to cut down the sweetness.

After hitting up a few more spots to sample and eat we had to get going. If we brought more cash I think I would have spent more money but would have ruined dinner. So much good food, even if the crowed and noise did not agree with my anxiety, it was not horrible.

Winner of last weeks Great Vegan Bean Book contest contest is lucky comment #2: ChoirQueer - congrats!

Oakland & Berkeley - Yet Again

On Friday we hit up Oakland and Berkeley for food and fun! We tried some new things out this time around.

After hearing so many good things about Timeless Coffee Roasters we had to go grab a snack and a drink. I did not know everything was vegan, mainly because only some things said vegan and there was no menu. I did know what to get since viewing pictures people have posted around various sources.

We had to get the spicy hot chocolate with almond milk - it was national hot chocolate day and again after seeing it posted I wanted that! We shared that and a piece of carrot cake. I bought coffee and cherry pistachio biscotti to take home.Yummy all around!

Oakland Whole Foods had us searching for eczema cream (did not find) and vegan jelly doughnuts (which we found and were not to impressed with). I bought all of the hickory flavored Primal Strips for Matt's lunch because we hardly find that one here and it is his fave flavor. Oakland Whole Foods has got to be our fave Whole Foods location.

Off to Berkeley - which took us 30 minutes to get to, but we saw some cool houses and such. Why to Berkeley? Natures Express and GiGi of course! I got to have a kale and avocado wrap (which she ordered too) and a side of vegan chat. Our significant other chatted as well and oddly ordered the same meal!

We were in Oakland for a concert, the concert turned out to be not so great - house party and freezing cold. However, we had a great time! We will be back soon!

Oakland Eats

We went up to Oakland for the day on Saturday. Matt is shooting a movie there so we went to location scout and eat! We made it in time for brunch at Pepples Doughnuts (the doughnut farm)!

I was a bit shaky after our bridge adventure heading into SF (the GPS did not navigate us well) but after the warm greeting we got down to business. I went for the tofu scramble and Matt ordered the mole burrito.

The scramble was light, fluffy and yummy. I got Dave's Killer Bread toast and ordered a Hodo Soy 'sausage' patty which was not really sausage like but more like a fried egg (no pics sorry - to busy eating) - soooooo good! There was even a big ol' bottle of Sriracha on the table for my hash browns!

Matt really dug his burrito! He said the refried beans were really tasty! He ordered it was spicy sausage but it came out as a side - which worked out better since it would probably overwhelm the delicate flavors going on. Matt even bought a box of doughnuts to go!

We location scouted, enjoyed the weather, zine shopped and had a green juice at Cafe Crush (which we discovered last time). The weather was perfect and when we got home we got to eat doughnuts!

I can't wait to go back!
