Face Foward Friday - Vegan Face Care

I usually oil cleanse my face with olive oil and castor oil. However it is summer we are in the 90s now with a 5 day 100+ streak last week. My skin is a bit red and blotchy - something that can be covered up with makeup but I rather treat it! So after receiving samples* of Fresh: Soy Face Cleanser I am hooked. It is gentle, does not really smell and though it is a gel it feels creamy!

Come on - you know you wanna touch it? Have you had the sonic pulsating vibrations run all over your face? Seriously if you have not experienced the Mia then you need to - it is like amazing! Matt bought me the animal print version (naturally!) for my birthday and I have been using it every day - sometimes twice a day!The cleanser it comes with sucks....also the refreshing gel cleanser is not vegan due to sea life.

Urban Decay Naked Skin is really great! At first I thought I would hate it due to reviews but I actually like it and once my BB cream runs out I will buy it since I have been sampling* it. My cousin and I are different undertones while still be light and Naked Skin had a match for both of us...Some companies only have foundation in like 4 colors...Naked Skin has a rainbow of skin tones. it offers good coverage and my skin can still breathe! It is a little watery but I use a damp sponge to apply it with no problem! I am a 3.0 by the way and my cousin who is more pink in tone is a 2.0.

*Getting samples at Sephora is always a good thing! :)

The Good & The Bad: Tingly Edition

Tingly seems to be a buzz word in the beauty/skin care circle. Tingly often is associated with a deep down clean feeling - being refreshed and energized.     

                                                              

First the good: Hurraw's Moon Balm. It is a night time treatment to help your lips feel moisturized. The first time I tried it I thought "hey this reminds me of something". It reminds me of Carmex - you know the yellow tubs of stuff your mom had in her purse while you were growing up. It is subtler than Carmex but it tingles - in a good soothing way that is pleasant.

I saw Willa Skin Care at Target and was curios about the vegan status of their company. After contacting them they stated that none of their products contained animal or insect ingredients. The line is targeted to pre-teens and younger teens but the ingredients are natural and the products look to be universal.
The bad: I bought the fresh face mask to try out. I like how thick and creamy the product was - also the fact it was a bright green color making it fun. After a few minutes my skin started to burn not tingle but burn. So I hopped in the shower and rinsed it off. Once the water hit my face it burned even more and I had to rub it off quickly to avoid the pain! I do not know if this was my face saying "hey your not a pre-teen, go get some products for your age range" or some type of reaction but the only time I have felt a burning sensation like this before was when I was using a depilatory cream on my legs! Not fun at all! I am glad that after rinsing the mask off my skin went back to normal (well, combination oily for me!)....


The bottom line: never use products on your skin that burn or hurt! Tingle is different - tingle should tickle not make you cry!

Vegan Skin Care For Men

Over the weekend Matt and I spent time at Sephora and Ulta looking at/trying out vegan skin care that suits him. The two brands we found at both stores that suited his manly cruelty free needs are Anthony Logistics (the line is vegan except the lip stuff) and Jack Black (most of the line is vegan - check the site).

Matt's pick of the products he tried out (or had me try on him) is Anthony Logistics astringent toner pads. These are rather big pads! They remind me of the ones I used in junior high - but Matt said there is no sting involved! They left him feeling refreshed on a hot day and got off dirt that you could see on the pad!

Since my birthday is next week I got the free birthday gift. I picked the guys pick which is vegan - Anthony Logistics Glycol Facial Cleanser, which can be used by us chicks to! I used it before handing it over to Matt, it left my skin feeling refreshed and the scent was nice and clean.

Both brands products are in the $20 range, not bad priced for quality skin care.
