Weekend Stuff - Halloween Meows

I tossed together a cat costume with stuff I had in my closet. Everyone needs a pair of cat ears in their closet!

Mady was a Death's Head Moth (as seen on Silence of the Lambs). She did not like the costume much so getting a good picture was rather hard but I tried! Matt gave me the idea when we spotted wings at pet store but they were like $25. I looked online - found a cheap pair and made a skull out of craft felt and attached it to the wings using double sided tape. This way come spring Mady can be a butterfly or something.

Mortis had a costume but it did not fit him well. So Matt snapped this photo of Mortis with a pumpkin.

Besides being catty Matt and I munched on vegan pizza and ice cream and spent time watching spooky shows and movies. I had a few kids at the door I gave candy too but each time there was a knock the cats got scared so I turned off the lights. Low key but nice - a winner!

Simple Vegan Fall Inspired Plate Of Food

Just a simple fast weeknight meal that had a kick of fall thrown in. Pasta with Oh She Glows Pumpkin Cheeze Sauce - I used turmeric, ginger and extra garlic to help fight off cold germs. I also topped it off with some hot seasoning sprinkles from our CSA box over the summer. I made sauteed kale sprouts fried in a bit of Magic Bacon Grease and tossed in some walnut pieces. Also I used up the rest of thhe weeks loaf of bread we had kickin' around for garlic bread. Tasty and fast and it warmed us up!

Pumpkin O's - My New Fave Cereal

I found Pumpkin O's cereal at Trader Joe's last night, when I saw that they were labeled vegan I snatched up a box. So far today I have had two bowls! The remind me of a cross between Apple Jack (cinnamon flavor) and Fruit Loops (fruity tang) and I love 'em. They are a limited product so you know I have to buy a few boxes to hold me over. If you need me I will be watching American Horror Story munching on cereal!

Pumpkin Mac, Baked Tofu And Broccoli

I have had the pumpkin cheeze sauce from Oh She Glows in my to do recipe pile for awhile now. I finally got around to it and was not let down! It is really creamy and satisfying. I did not really get a pumpkin taste, the nutritional yeast does come into play though. I was hesitant to give it to Matt because well, it's pumpkin based and he is often odd about things like this. He liked it though and he said it went well with the broccoli. I also made baked tofu from Appetite For Reduction - since I am trying to cook along with the cook book challenge over on the PPK.
The broccoli is easy. Take a few cups of broccoli heads, steam in a pan with a lid and a few drops of water, till the water is gone ( a few minutes) on low heat. Add a bit of lemon olive oil to the pan, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, a pinch of S&P and a nice sized pinch of red pepper flakes. Toss and cook for 2-3 minutes and serve!
This is a pretty fast meal - one of those 30 minute meals, if you do not count the tofu marinating for a hour. However that is down time and does that really count?
