[13 Days of Halloween] Day 6 - Celebrating With Friends

I am lucky to have friends that love Halloween as much as I do. Even though most of my pals live far away the mail lets us celebrate in hauntingly fun ways!

photo <\a>

<a href=The Spooky Vegan spoiled me once again with a box of goodies in our annual Halloween swap. She sent me an assortment of wonderful stuff including bat stickers, cookies, lip balm, cat toys, buttons and so much more fun stuff! It is like the Pumpkin King came via UPS!

[13 Days of Halloween] Day 8 - Trick or Treat Yo Self

Treat yourself this Halloween to some of my personal favorite finds. Because you only live once unless your religion dictates otherwise.

I am in desperate need of this Ouija Board pillow! I will be conjuring some money up shortly to buy one!

My favorite prime time zombie is now a Pop Figure! Preorder Olivia Moore from Izombie today! She even is holding a plate of brain-food and hot sauce!

Bring in some good luck with this limited edition black cat pin. Scratch you're it! Creepy Co. has a lot of cool pins so pick up a few more in your cart while your there.

Burn down the house with a Buffalo Bill inspired candle, it smells like lotion - duh!

Maybe a night in is what you need. Get medicated with this Jack O' Lantern glass pipe. The vine detail is pretty cool!

[13 Days of Halloween] Day 11 - Trick or Treat Memories

This week brings up a lot of a lot of emotions for me. It is the anniversary of both my sister's and Mar's passing. I reflect a lot on memories and buy candles to light in their honor and eat foods that remind me of them. I have built altar memorials, donated money and reminded people not to drink and drive to honor their memories as well.
Above is a photo of my sister and I as kids. I am the Care Bear and my sister is a pink kitty. I know my grandma made my costume but I am not sure if she made my sister's. Probably - it was the 80s and both of our costumes had that sewn with love look! We were the first in a line of grand kids for my grandma Shirley so we got special treatment. My sister and I loved trick or treating. My parents took us to neighborhoods they grew up in as well as our own. We got to visit grandparents and cousins and after 'checking' our Halloween candy we got to eat some. To be a kid again!

It has been 3 years since Mar passed and like my sister I miss him and think about him everyday. He was my world and was my best friend. He was pretty chill with costumes as long as we kept it simple. My sister dubbed him 'the closest goth cat that Mickey will have' - Mickey being the pregnant rescue we took in. To tie all of these memories together my sister said Mar was a big cry baby till my grandma Shirley picked him up one night while visiting, and he stopped crying.

I miss my sister, Mar and my grandma but I have some good memories. Memories are kinda like Halloween candy - it feels good to have a heavy haul of them.

Weekend Stuff - Halloween Meows

I tossed together a cat costume with stuff I had in my closet. Everyone needs a pair of cat ears in their closet!

Mady was a Death's Head Moth (as seen on Silence of the Lambs). She did not like the costume much so getting a good picture was rather hard but I tried! Matt gave me the idea when we spotted wings at pet store but they were like $25. I looked online - found a cheap pair and made a skull out of craft felt and attached it to the wings using double sided tape. This way come spring Mady can be a butterfly or something.

Mortis had a costume but it did not fit him well. So Matt snapped this photo of Mortis with a pumpkin.

Besides being catty Matt and I munched on vegan pizza and ice cream and spent time watching spooky shows and movies. I had a few kids at the door I gave candy too but each time there was a knock the cats got scared so I turned off the lights. Low key but nice - a winner!

Crescent Mummy Wraps - Cute & Easy

Sometimes the most simplest food is the best. In this case mummy roll ups made with Pillsbury Crescent Roll dough, veggie dogs and a strip of Daiya cheeze tucked in. As you bake these you make a big ol' pot of vegan mac & cheeze, toss is some broccoli and get out the Sriracha and ketchup to make a dipping sauce. Once the mummy wraps are baked let them cool for a minute and dot Sriracha eyes onto them.
This meal has been so popular here and all the ingredients are on sale so we have been munching on mummies a lot lately. Plus it is a cute meal made without mad bento box skills. These do not take much time and effort. Wrapping is the hardest part and once you do one or two you get into a groove. A tip is to make sure you cut the strips right as you pop the can open. If the dough starts to loose it's refrigerated chill it becomes a bit gummy and harder to work with.

[Vegan MOFO Day 22] Bye Bye MOFO & Looking Ahead

Today is the last day of MOFO - oh no! What did we do before MOFO? Oh ya zines - for me. I can get back to working on a new issue and working on some new jewelry, one item I have been planning on for like six months!

Since it is the last day of MOFO and it landed on a 'try something new day" I want to talk about holiday plans. I just got the Vegan Food Gifts book via the box with a smile on it last week. This has inspired me to create some gifts in jars for people on my list.

The book is really cute! The ingredients are easy to find for the most part and each page has a nice layout and gift ideas on how to give items. I think the gifts would work for vegan and omnivores a like. A lot of ideas are great to do in batches if you work in a office setting you could make each person a yummy jar! I am thinking some of these things for neighbors would be a hit!

I also have not picked up my knitting needles in forever. The big local craft show I have done for like the last 5 years was a no-go this year. I usually start knitting fingerless gloves for shops and shows. They seem to be a big hit and are much requested. I need to go yarn shopping, I want to knit up 2 fast scarves for a homeless couple we know...Also buy their furry companions some fleece blankets as it gets cold...

Speaking of holidays - it is Halloween! I did not find much in the way of cute-spook this year! It is OK, I am really trying to not add more clutter! I hope your Halloween is fun - even if you are staying in like us! We have mini bags of Oreos, Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids to give out! Also once Matt gets home from work we give each other little Halloween gifts! Maybe tonight we will watch something spooky!

I really enjoy fabric shopping - but I love fabric shopping at this time of year. I love finding skull fabric and dia de los muertos fabric! This year not a lot has come out, but I did find some new stuff and raided my massive fabric bin. Here is some creepy cute bows in my shop using some of my fabric finds!
