[Vegan Mofo] Pomegranates - Eating & Crafting

When we bought the house we live in a few years back it was during September, we noticed green bulbs on a tree in the back, not sure what they will be. The next month we had beautiful pomegranates and envious friends!
Growing up my sister loved pomegranates - I tried them, not really a fan. Each year since we have had this house Matt and I try them and just share one and give the rest away. Yesterday I sat down to a organic apple for a snack - the apple was not tasty and I wanted fruit. So I went to the backyard and picked a pomegranate off the tree, washed it, cut in a munched on the seeds. It was tasty - sweet and sour and just what my body was craving. Maybe this year I will eat two!

After I munched away I cleaned up the juices and loved the burgundy wine color. I know the juice stains - the white napkin I used took the color in well. So I did some research - you can dye fabric using pom juice! Here are some links about dyeing fabric with the juice. I kinda want to tie dye or dip dye fabric for bows now!

Easy step by step instructions:

This video mostly talks about wool - but I think it would work on organic cotton just as well. It shows how different pots bring out different colors. Really pretty!

The Clouds Have Eyes 8 - Bit Concert and Art Show [pt1]

Last Saturday my boyfriend organized the first ever 8 bit art show and concert in our town (and the surrounding towns for the record). It was a super rad show full of old friends and new friends and I am so very proud him of him for doing this!

Here are the visual artist's work that was displayed and sold all night long.

LoserKid5150's Lego sculptures. If you do not know by now this is my boyfriend's work. He started this crazy 8-bit Lego madness - now people on Etsy try to replicate his work...Suckers! Some of his bigger pieces made it to a new home that night! Awesome - man up!

Cinder Arts drove down from Sacramento to show off his work with his family in tow! Not only is he crafty but he recycles - using paper products to create his paper crafts! He really knows his stuff - he schooled me on paint and techniques!

This is my stuff. I play with perler beads on occasion (more so now that I have gotten positive feed back) and my boyfriend asked me to come up with some stuff. I sold a lot that night and had custom orders come in that I am working on. Perler beads really relax me!

Stay tuned for the next level...I mean part 2 - the music of the night!

A Berry A Day...

I love berries, I have a weakness for strawberries, not necessarily eating them but finding strawberry accessories and toys! I love berry flavored drinks and candy that is super odd tasting some may say! Here is what I am loving right now!

I love Metromint water! At first I was skeptical of a berry mint flavor - however it is oddly refreshing. I know it is not for everyone but I love it's oddness. I buy a couple of bottles a week!

I am currently using Melvita's Strawberry toothpaste. I know it is for kid's but it is tasty, not to foamy and leaves my mouth tasting great!

This a cute tutorial on how to make a kawaii strawberry pillow!

If you are a candle junkie like me try PurBliss candles! They smell so good! Soy candles if you do not know by now burn longer and are so much better for the environment!

I love Lupicia's Strawberry Vanilla tea. I drink it strait up, in my opinion the matcha and strawberry goodness needs no help with soy milk or sweetener!

Do you have any favorite berry products right now? Please share!

Crafty Christmas

I tried making a some of my gifts this year. I ended up knitting 4 simple rib scarves, 2 pair of knitted fingerless gloves, 2 8-bit art pieces for my boyfriend and a whole lot of rocky road bark with Dandies marshmallows!

Our friend Kyle and the scarf I made him - the scarf that started my month of crazy knitting! I used my camera phone and the a app with tons of film effects for something muted and vintage..

Mega Man portrait for Matt - my first big piece - I used some ideas I found off the net because I am still new to pixels and beads...

Mario piranha for Matt, my first time using 2 boards in a project:
