[Vegan MOFO Day 21]Weekend Round Up: Memories & More Veganized Fast Food

Matt was shooting again this weekend so I stayed home and finally addressed my Halloween cards! I picked them up Friday night from the printers. I am way behind this year!

Saturday was the 9th anniversary of my sister's death. Matt overheard a coworker talking about glow sticks in balloons for a party and I thought that sounded cool so I wanted to bring a few to my sister and some lil things I picked up for her. My mom always is decorating the cemetery with dollar store finds. Some people may find this morbid or weird but I feel it is a way to remember and celebrate someone you are missing. My mom pulled up as we got there and I shared some of my candy loot that Amber sent me!

Dinner was at Thai House, our fave place to eat in Modesto (not that we eat out a lot around here). They really know how to hook a vegan up! The fresh spring rolls with sweet and sour (and for me salty) sauce is a must have! If you are ever in Modesto - go here to eat!
The other place in town we grab food from - Greens Market had vegan doughnuts and brownies so I picked a few up and we had them after buying Halloween candy at Target (again very last minute) for Halloween! It is nice having vegan stuff in town!

Our Sunday dinner plans were flipped. Last minute decision was to create a Carl's JR guacamole burger! This was just a last minute deal with loads of guacamole, organic tomatoes, FYH jack-cheeze on a seeded wheat bun! After looking at the Carl's Junior menu I noticed a 'veg' option that is a bun, guacamole, veggies and cheese...I am not sure how popular that is. Their other option is a turkey-guac burger. I bet the vegan Quorn patty would be a good bet for a fill in. However I have not found them anywhere! So the Gardein fresh patty was what I used! With a side of fries dinner was good!

Weekend Wrap Up - Oakland & More

Friday night was spent in Oakland. We headed up early before work got out to beat traffic. We stopped at Rock Paper Scissor Collective so I could drop of zine for the library (which was closed when we got there). We drove over to Banana Soy Vegan for dinner which started off with Matt's car alarm going off as soon as we ordered (which never has happened before). The restaurant is clean, the staff is attentive and the food was good. The 'chicken' sticks with peanut sauce is tasty and I am wanting more of the yellow noodles I ordered. If you like odd tastes like me - order the strawberry jam drink. It is like lemonade with a glob of strawberry jam at the bottom!  After checking in at the venue where Matt was showing his movie trailer we went to Whole Foods. I was in luck - there was a massage therapist and for $15 I got a nice massage for 10 minutes. Matt and I bought a few things, checked out the large church across the street and shared a berry chocolate parfait from the bakery! After a night of performances, vending and showing Matt's trailer we headed home to our bed!

Saturday we lounged around the house as much as possible. I had my newest zine The Stay At Home Girlfriend #2 printed later on.  We ran errands and then saw Matt's trailer on the big screen again. Another late night and days later my body is still paying for it. I am happy for Matt though and I cannot wait till his trailer is complete (editing some stuff) so he can post it online!

[day 14] Eating At New To Me Places

I have been kinda ill the last few weeks and lately have not had much of a appetite. Last weekend while Matt and I handed out peanut butter sandwiches to the homeless we came upon Tasty Thai which we heard had vegan options, I ran in and picked up a to go menu. After going over it and seeing lots of vegetarian dishes I decided to try to see what could be made vegan. Tonight when nothing sounded good Matt and I decided to try something new. So I went in and told them what I wanted/did not want in my dish (fish sauce, eggs, animal stock) and they were cool.

We ended up with two dishes to split with rice and tea. Matt ordered a spicy noodle dish with tofu and I ordered eggplant tofu. Yummy dishes served family style so we can pick and choose. I am stuffed and have a cup of tea waiting for me! Goodnight!
